On the map, blue dots are lakes, teal dots are swamp lakes and brown dots are mud wallows. Hover a dot to see whether you can drink there.

Can water dry out?

Every lake, swamp and mud wallow on Gateway is set up to be able to dry out in the server data, so a lake that was full last time can be lower or gone. Rivers are your backup: they are drawn on the map, so pick a route that keeps one close.

  • The west (West Rail Access) has the most lakes.
  • The east (East Plains) is mud wallow country: 16 of the 36.
  • The swamps in the south-east hold the swamp lakes; one of them is not drinkable, so check the tooltip before you rely on it.

Find your way to the nearest water

  1. In game, press Tab and copy your location.
  2. Paste it into the box above the Gateway map: a pin shows where you are.
  3. Turn on the Water layer and pick the closest blue or teal dot.

Playing with friends? Open a pack room on the map and share the code: everyone in the room sees each other's positions, so you can meet at the same lake.

The data is from Gateway in game version 0.21.784; a new patch gets a new map version.
